Practical advice, hints and tips on how best to dress your shape...
Every woman has bits about their body that they hate.......
We are fickle creatures and always want what we havent got ! Having the perfect body does not mean you have to be a size 10, 5'7 and sporting a Dcup.. !!
The trick is to accept your body, work with the bits you can't change, learn the art of concealment and you can do wonders !
It's about dressing to show off what you love and hiding what you loathe, and remembering every womans mantra......
You may not have been born with style, but you can learn how to create it !!!!
I come across many body issues in the shop, but have listed the most common complaints, they seem to apply to most women, but..... DONT PANIC ! ....... help is on hand to turn you into the goddess you know is lurking on the inside.. !!
UPPER ARMS
The upper arms are a bone of contention with many ladies, but are obviously very easy to hide. Its mainly a "night out" problem, as we all want to wear lovely strappy tops, but a nice wrap or shrug will soon make this possible, bolero cardigans are great as they literally cover the tops of your arms and are cleverly designed to cut away around your bust therefore not detracting from any nice dress/top you are wearing underneath.
Lots of manufacturers do cater for this problem and use fine or floaty fabrics to create a sleeve to please.
Try to be creative and buy something that complements your outfit, it will look stylish and much more flattering if it looks like its part of the whole "ensemble".
Lastly.... ladies are they really as bad as you think ??? Make sure they have received the scrub treatment in the shower to get the skin glowing. Perhaps apply a little self tan and run a line of highlighter/shimmer down the centre of the arm to create the illusion of length and draw the eye down ( this works well on your shins too ).
My final tip is a few glasses of wine.... after them you will definately ditch the cardi !!!
Confidence is key !
SHORT LEGS/ PETITE LADIES
As far as I know there is no surgical solution to this problem so you simply have to become a magician ... !Its all about illusion, you can add inches to your pins by dressing correctly, read on......
The golden rule here is to NEVER wear cropped trousers that end mid calf. You can wear short tailored shorts with opaque tights and heels or long boots, all in the same colour or go for cropped trousers that end at your knee..
Heels are obviously your best friend and should be used at every opportunity.
The best trousers for you are palazzo or wide leg, firstly they can hide a killer heel or good wedge, and they disguise where your bottom ends and your legs begin. Wearing the same colour boots and shoes as your trousers also elongates your leg.
You have to accept that you have stopped growing and play up your other assets, also remember 5ft nothing NEVER stopped Kylie ... !!!!!
BIG BOOTY
First things first, lets get this into perspective, people in the USA are having implants to get a curvy bottom, and celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce have all done wonders for the big beautiful booty. Stop hiding your light under a bushel, in certain parts of the world men would worship at your feet ! BUT before you all book a one way ticket to these men, lets look at how to make your rear end hot !
Avoid like the plague high waisted trousers, go for tailored side fastening pants, semi fitted with a bit of lycra is good as you get the shape of your bottom without the wobble !
When choosing jeans ( jeans I hear you cry ? Me ? ) you need a pair with lycra, a darker colour is better, and you need big pockets with detail on them.
Most of my customers when I persuade them into a pair of jeans say NOOOO this will make people look at my bum, actually this is not true, it makes people look at the pockets, the detail draws the eye to the pockets and away from the derriere.
A plain back end is all bottom, trust me, look in the mirror trying both and you will see what I mean. Think about a wall, a large wall painted in a block colour, you will only see this huge expanse of colour..... put a picture on it and your eye is automatically drawn to it, detail on your bottom works the same !!
Pencil skirts or fit and flare skirts cling in all the right places and will give you a shape Jessica Rabbit would be envious of......work it baby !!
Embrace your bootylicious, in a recent poll a curvaceous bottom was second on the list to boobs in what all men want ( in their women, not themselves obviously ! )
CURVY HIPS
Are you pear shaped ? Do you hate it ?
Its very easy to disguise, you just have to balance out your top and bottom half.
Slash neck tops in a bold block colour are great, they balance out the torso wonderfully.
Avoid deep v fronted tops.
Never buy tapered trousers or skinny jeans aaaggghhhh, they will just accentuate your problem.
The 70's was a dream era for you as flares are great for hippy girls, but bootlegs work just aswell, so do palazzo pants.
Avoid "boyfriend" style jeans.
Go for an A line skirt, worn with wedges or long boots.
Avoid anything that accentuates your waist too much as this makes your hips look bigger.
Bear in mind that is the shape a woman should be AND it makes childbearing so much easier..... so they say !!!
TUMMY TROUBLE
Ok ladies your stomach is usually a wonderful sign of your womanhood, ie you have had children or are happy and content ! But it isnt normally something we want on show, stretchmarks, sagging skin, or just the absence of a six pack can be a real confidence drainer.
So if you...
a) cant be bothered with the gym
b) cant face or afford the surgery
c) cant give up the kettle chips, wine and or chocolate.....
you cant beat it so learn to conceal it.
Ruched tops are brilliant as no one knows what is fabric and what is flesh, wrap tops are great too as they can be adjusted to accomodate the c) combo !
Tops that have a slightly dropped waist are perfect too, just bag them over slightly and you have more than enough room to ensure you dont turn blue breathing in all night.
Dresses or tops that have a band under the bust with an empire line will make your boobies look great, give you a waist and skim gently over the lumps and bumps.... fabulous !
I have covered the most common problems but there are a few golden rules no matter what your shape or size.
ALWAYS wear a good bra, so many women dont spend enough on underwear and its sooo important.
Think of it as the foundations of a house (the foolish man built his house on the sand ) if they are not right the whole thing will fall apart !
Underwear is the key to most solutions, magic knickers, however unflattering are called magic for a reason !
Get the underwear right and all of your clothes will sit much better.
Never buy clothes that are too small, they look terrible, think of the magic porridge pot..... things spilling out left, right and centre.
No one needs to know what size you are, if you are unhappy and the label is winking an evil eye at you CUT IT OUT, its just a number.
That extra size can make all the difference between looking good, being able to sit, move about and of course breathe.
Lastly can I mention a word that does not seem to be hanging in many ladies wardrobes...
CONFIDENCE......
I started with the line that we all have bits about our bodies that we hate, but the flip side of this is that we all have bits we love.....
We have to learn to accentuate them and believe in ourselves, every woman has the potential to look amazing no matter what shape or size...
Walk tall, shoulders back, boobs out, back straight, tummies in and .........SMILE !!!!!!
Ps remember sometimes it IS better to be female, at least we have the
power of make up, beauty therapy, hairdressing miracles and an angel on
your side at HALO !
